Abstract

The purpose of the research in this article is to analyze the ethnic capital of migrants in ethnic social networks. The methodological basis for the study of the ethnic capital of migrants in social networks is the following principles: first, the principles of network analysis, which characterize the expression in social networks of forms of social relations, social communication and its content; secondly, the principles of assessing ethnic social networks, according to the concepts of E. Dicker, M. Smith, M. Yu. Nebrat, D. Hanson, V. Shanderman and other authors, as social media; thirdly, the principles of assessing ethnic social networks, based on the analysis of the content of semantic units of information and communication interaction in ethnic social networks as an expression of the methods of content analysis, in which the semantic units of analysis are concepts and terms, texts and topics used in communicative interaction in social networks, events and facts, names of people and names of organizations. Research results. The article discusses the formation of the ethnic capital of migrants, the place and means of which are social networks, which serve as a way of organizing and self-organizing ethnic communities and at the same time an important research tool for studying migration processes. The promotion of ethnic capital of migrants is expressed in the development of the qualities of ethnic communities, such as the strengthening of ethnic values and traditions, ethnic cohesion, ethnic solidarity, network self-presentation, and network virtual ethnic identity. The ethnic capital of migrants can be both a complement to the social capital acquired by migrants and thereby contribute to the successful adaptation of migrants, and it can also be an opposing alternative to it in the social situation when migrants experience a shortage of social capital, i. e. the lack of social trust and equal social partnership on the part of the host society, and the growth of xenophobic, migrant-phobic and racist sentiments of part of the host population, especially in the context of the global social crisis, which is the COVID-19 pandemic, can aggravate this situation.
