Abstract

The article examines the level of generalized, interethnic and intraethnic trust based on the data of the Nationalwide Survey of 2020, and assesses their role in the formation of All-Russian identity and ethnic tolerance. The data of the Nationalwide survey conducted in 2020 were used within the framework of the project All-Russian Identity and Interethnic Relations: social Practice, Public Discourse and Management Decisions( within the framework of the Program of Fundamental and Applied Scientific Research related to the study of the ethno-cultural diversity of Russian society and aimed at strengthening the all-Russian identity). Data from the WCIOM survey conducted in 2019, data from regional surveys of the Center for the Study of Interethnic Relations of Institute of Sociology of FCTAS RAS conducted in 2014-2019 were used. Generalized, inter-ethnic, intra-ethnic trust was studied using a simple 4-point scale of trust / distrust. The question was asked “ Do you think you can trust most people? with the answer options: Most people can definitely be trusted, Most people can probably be trusted, Most people probably can't be trusted, Most people definitely can't be trusted. The level of generalized trust in the Russian Federation in 2020 was 39%, the level of generalized distrust-47%. It is concluded that generalized trust is an active and stable socio-cultural source for the formation of a positive All-Russian identity and ethnic tolerance. The level of interethnic trust is comparable to the level of generalized trust: 39% trust people of other nationalities, 42% do not trust, the level of interethnic trust is slightly higher among the category of ethnic non- Russian. It is concluded that ethnicity remains highly important for citizens of Russia, so the level of intra-ethnic trust (trust in people of their own nationality) is higher (58%) than the level of generalized and inter-ethnic trust. In order to create a positive and stable civil All-Russian identity, it must be strengthened by civil law grounds that overcome ethnic favoritism in social interactions.
