Abstract

The article shows that social inequality and poverty are among the most pressing problems facing government bodies around the world. Effective government economic policies to correct inequality are key to successfully fighting poverty. Growing income inequality is common throughout the world. The nature of economic inequality is changing. If earlier the main problems of inequality concerned countries at the lower stages of economic development, now there are more and more poor people in the middle-level countries. Against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was another sharp increase in socio-economic stratification, the gap between “rich and poor”, both in Russia and in the world as a whole. The author comes to the conclusion that the formation of a strategy for socio-economic development, the fight against poverty and inequality in a pandemic can only be based on the conditions of cooperation between countries, especially in the field of human capital development.
