Abstract

Purpose of the study: to study the involvement of the older generation in volunteer activities as one of the ways of their self-realization and social adaptation. The methodological basis of the research was formed by conceptual approaches to research to the study of the phenomenon of volunteering in general and silver volunteering in particular. The empirical base was formed by the results of the author’s sociological research «The work of volunteer movements in Moscow», conducted in January 2021 as part of the project «Moscow Longevity»Research results. A study conducted among Muscovites participating in the Moscow Longevity project and visitors to My Social Center showed that more than 70% of those surveyed had a positive attitude towards volunteering; moreover, more than 30% of respondents became volunteers at a younger age, and almost 60% after retirement. This once again confirms the fact that it is necessary to support and develop «silver» volunteering in Russia, since the positive effect of it is directed not only towards the recipients of aid, but also towards those who provide it.
