Abstract

The article is devoted to the transformation of public opinion in relation to unregistered marriages. The data of all- Russian public opinion polls are presented, on the basis of which it is concluded that cohabitation in our country is gradually becoming an independent institution, the most popular among urban youth. The public discussion on the problem of cohabitation is analyzed, as a result of which three key points of view on unregistered relations in Russian society are identified: liberal, conservative and formal legal. It is shown that regardless of the point of view, today almost all experts are against the legalization of cohabitation, while in public opinion this idea is quite popular. The predominance in the public consciousness of the normative attitude towards the issues of unregistered relationships is stated. At the same time, those who support cohabitation emphasize respect for the individual choice of people, while opponents point to the incompatibility of cohabitation with established norms. In the conclusion, a conclusion is made about the growth of an alternative understanding by society of the essence of family values, which indicates the evolution of the institution of the family. The work is based on theoretical approaches traditionally used in family sociology. The empirical basis of the article was the content analysis materials, statistical data, databases of leading domestic research centers, analysis of regulatory documents.
